These new times that we are facing due to the COVID 19 pandemics have been highly demanding for everyone as specifically for university teachers has stimulated them to discover new skills and strategies to cope with distance or hybrid learning. It has been an opportunity for most of us t learn new ways of teaching.

We’ve tried to set up an exciting agenda where you can listen to inspirational talks, discuss university teacher topics, het to know some your colleagues from all over the world and share your experience.

In addition to the lectures, the event will offer workshops and a coffee lounge on the use of technologies, teacher training, public policies, according to the following schedule.

Professor at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Coimbra, PhD in Statistics. He teaches courses on statistical methodologies and his research interests focus on statistical modeling in the area of structural regression models and statistical education. He is currently a researcher and member of the research team for several internationally funded research projects in areas such as Biostatistics, Psychometric Analysis, Social Sciences, Statistical Education and Mathematical Modeling.

🇺🇾 Claudio Rama

Researcher, consultant and teacher specialized in higher education topics. Economist, Marketing Specialist; Specialist in Distance Education; Master in Educational Management; Doctor in Education; Doctor in Derecho and four Postdoctors. Currently he is Academic Director of the University of the Company (UDE) in Uruguay and Director of the Doctorate of Higher Education (UAI, UNRN, UA) of Argentina. He was Director of the UNESCO Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (IESALC), Rector del IAEN (Ecuador), and Dean of Business Sciences (UDE) among other positions. I publish 25 proper books on education topics and was distinguished with Doctorate Honoris Causa.

🇧🇷 Fabio José Garcia dos Reis

President of STHEM Brasil and Director of Innovation at Semesp. Degree in History, Doctor in Social History from the University of São Paulo (USP) and postdoc in progress by the University of Coimbra. It is dedicated to research on higher education trends and the governance and management models of HEIs. Author of several books in the area of higher education. Professor in undergraduate and graduate courses.

🇵🇹 Filipe Antunes

Assistant Professor at University of Coimbra. He has a PhD degree in Colloid Chemistry at the University of Coimbra (UC) and University of Lund, Sweden. He developed his Postdoctoral work at Procter & Gamble in the USA and at BASF in Germany. He has been project leader of more than 40 academic and industrial projects in UC and he currently coordinates a research group (Colloids and Innovative Nanomaterials Group) at UC and promotes cooperative industry-academia networks, both at a national and international level. He is the author of 65 scientific international publications and of several patents, and shows a h-index of 24. He gave ca. 150 communications at universities and companies, in the context of his areas of expertise that include Nanotechnology, Physical Chemistry of Surfactants and Polymers, Colloids, Detergency, Rheological control, Stabilization formulations and coatings.

🇨🇦 George Siemens

Theoretical of learning processes in the digital age. He is an assistant professor at the Center for Distance Education and a researcher and strategist at Technology Enhanced Knowledge Research Institute (TEKRI) at Athabasca University in Alberta, Canada. Your role as a social media strategist involves planning, researching and implementing social networking technologies, with a focus on systemic impact and institutional change. His interest in exploring the pedagogical possibilities of the new information and communication technologies led him, together with Stephen Downes (Institute for Information Technology’s e-Learning Research Group, Canada), to propose Connectivity, which he presents as a new teaching paradigm -learning.

He was Coordinator of Entrepreneurship in UNISAL undergraduate and graduate courses, believing in hands-on and skill-based teaching. Today he is Head WE of the Wadhwani Foundation / Latin America, with the objective of generating high-value jobs by training entrepreneurs and local ecosystems.

🇧🇷 Marcelo Knobel

Rector of the State University of Campinas (Unicamp). He is also a full professor in the Department of Condensed Matter Physics at the Unicamp Institute of Physics Gleb Wataghin (IFGW). He is a member of the Board of Directors of the National Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM). From August 2015 to November 2016, he directed CNPEM’s National Nanotechnology Laboratory (LNNano). He held other leadership positions at the University, including that of Dean of Undergraduate Studies, from 2009 to 2013. He graduated and received his PhD in Physics from Unicamp.

🇵🇹 Maria Manuel Borges

Maria Manuel Borges is an Associate Professor in Information Science at the University of Coimbra. She is Director of the Department of Philosophy, Communication and Information and co-coordinator of the Digital Humanities Group of the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies of the 20th Century (CEIS20). She is Director of the PhD in Information Science and has extensive experience in supervising research work. He is a member of the editorial board of a significant number of national and international scientific journals and Associate Editor of the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). He is a member of the Interministerial group for the National Policy on Open Science in Portugal, subgroup Evaluation of science. He is a member of the Research Data Alliance and was part of the Advisory Board of the RDA.pt node representing the University of Coimbra. His research interests are centered around Open Science with a particular focus on the issues of research evaluation, the management of research data and the curation of digital information.

🇨🇦 Norm Vaughan

Professor in the Department of Education, Faculty of Health, Community Education at Mount Royal University in Calgary, Alberta. He’s teaching background includes graduate and undergraduate courses in educational technology, K-12 education, technical training in petroleum industry and English as a second language. He has co-authored Teaching in Blended Learning Environments: Creating and Sustaining Communities of Inquiry and also Blended Learning in Higher Education. Dr. Vaughan is also the co-founder of the Blended Online Design Network.

🇵🇹 Teresa Pessoa

Pedagogical coordinator of the Distance Learning project at the University of Coimbra and Associate Professor at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences at the University of Coimbra. She is a teacher and researcher in the areas of teacher training and the pedagogical use of information and communication technologies. She coordinated Luso-Spanish projects in the area of teacher training as well as being part of the Luso-Brazilian project within the scope of university pedagogy. She participated in several national and international projects in the area of cyberbullying and, currently, she is a responsible researcher of international projects, in the areas of University Pedagogy, teacher training, e-learning and active methodologies. Currently she is an integrated member of the Center for 20th Century Interdisciplinary Studies – CEIS20.

🇵🇹 Amílcar Falcão

Rector of the University of Coimbra for the 2019-2023 quadrennium. Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Doctorate and Aggregate in Pharmacy by the University of Coimbra, institution in which he is Full Professor. He has an extensive scientific productivity that contains more than 230 articles, has extensive experience in the supervision of research works, belongs to the editorial board of several scientific journals.

🇧🇷 Ana Valéria S. Almeida Reis

Innovation Director at FASA – Faculdade Santo Ângelo. She has a degree in LETRAS, a Masters in Applied Linguistics, a PhD student at the University of Coimbra. Professor and researcher in Active Methodologies, Active Learning and Outcomes Learning. She works on teacher training, teaching competence and its dimensions, and performs practical experiences in the area of active methodologies, active learning and procedural assessment. She provides consulting with a focus on teacher training, active methodologies, active learning, inverted classroom, hybrid teaching and assessment.

🇵🇹 António José Mendes

PhD in Electrical Engineering, specializing in Informatics. Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Engineering (DEI) at the Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Coimbra, where he teaches Programming courses. His research interests are focused on Education in Computer Science and Distance Learning. He currently coordinates the Distance Learning Project at the University of Coimbra.

António Tavares Lopes is a guest assistant at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Coimbra in the Department of Philosophy, Communication and Information. He is a researcher at the Digital Humanities Group at the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies of the 20th Century (CEIS20). He is a member of the Direction of the Degree in Information Science. 🇮🇹 Francesca Helm

Francesca Helm is a researcher at the Department of Political Science, Law and International Studies at the University of Padova, chair of the Education Innovation working group of the Coimbra Group, a European network of universities, and co-coordinator of the Italian section of Scholars at Risk. Her research over the last 10 years has focused on intercultural dialogue, virtual exchange and internationalisation of higher education, including English-medium instruction. She is leading the monitoring and evaluation of the Erasmus+ Virtual Exchange pilot project.

Head of International Relations Unit of the University of Coimbra. She was the Coordinator of International Relations Department of Faculty of Sport Sciences and Physical Education since 1997. She has a degree in Sociology, a Master course in Globalizations and a Ph.D in Tourism Leisure and Culturen. She taught Sociology of Education, for five years, in the Sport Sciences Degree at the University of Coimbra. During eight years she was the President of Portuguese Association of International Relations Technicians from Portuguese Higher Education Institutions. She is the representative member of University of Coimbra in the Latin American Working Group of the Coimbra Group.

🇧🇷 Maria Helena Guimarães de Castro

President of the National Education Council. Sociologist and Master in Political Science, professor at Unicamp, where she worked as a researcher at the Center for Public Policy Studies / NEPP. She was Full Member of the State Board of Education, Executive Director of the SEADE Foundation and Secretary of Education of Enato de São Paulo. He has experience and work in the field of Political Science, with an emphasis on Public Policy in the themes: Education in Brazil, Social Policy, Evaluation, Public Policies and Education. He also participated in several international education committees at UNESCO and the OECD.

🇺🇸 Minu Ipe

Director of the University Design Institute (Udi) and Advisor to the Presidency of Arizona State University. Its portfolio includes partnerships with more than 50 universities, to co-design innovative and scalable solutions to allow universities to be more relevant, and sustainable. As a consultant to the ASU rectory, she leads large-scale design initiatives that increase the capacity for innovation and impact. They include redesigning and transforming academic units, university-wide leadership development and multiple efforts to strengthen a culture of innovation.

🇵🇹 Paula Lopes

She is an International Relations professor at the School of Economics of the University of Coimbra and a researcher on Peace Studies at the Center for Social Studies (University of Coimbra, Portugal). She lectures at the undergraduate and graduate levels in International Relations, including the MA in Peace, Security and Development Studies and the PhD in International Politics and Conflict Resolution. She received a PhD in Political Science and International Relations from The Johns Hopkins University (USA) and an MSc in Politics of the World Economy from the London School of Economics and Political Science (Great Britain). She has a Bachelor Degree (five years) in Economics from the School of Economics of the University of Coimbra. Her research interests focus on global interventionism dynamics, including peace missions, development aid and international water governance. She has conducted research in Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, France, Mozambique, Portugal and Timor-Leste. Her publications reflect this multidisciplinary and multinational approach.
